Ray Bellm, the Chairman of the Board of the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC), has vacated the position it was confirmed on January 12th. The BRDC said that Bellm had stepped down after a Board meeting held at Silverstone on the 11th. He was reportedly voted out of office.

BRDC president Sir Jackie Stewart said Bellm leaving was the result of issues concerning "corporate governance" and the Club stressed that the announcement would not affect the future of the British Grand Prix.

In regard to the Silverstone meeting, a BRDC statement said: "As a consequence of those discussions Ray Bellm stepped down as Chairman of the Board of the BRDC with immediate effect. The Board wishes to thank Ray Bellm for his efforts and contribution to the Club during a very challenging period from January 2004."

"The BRDC said today's announcement does not affect in any way the BRDC's contract with the FOA securing the British Grand Prix at Silverstone for the next five years."
