Four of a kind, was Rubens Barrichello's poker-style score in the 500 Miles of Granja Viana. The Ferrari driver took his fourth victory in the sixth running of Brazil's most important karting event. Rubens was teamed with Felipe Massa and Tony Kanaan in a Shell supported team. This was also win number four for the CART driver, while for Massa it was his second.

In the twelve hours of racing, from midnight to midday on Sunday, the Shell team covered 746 laps, dominating the event. The second place crew of Marcello Thomaz, Rafael Suzuki and Michel Aboissa were 11 laps down, while Renato Russo, Sergio Jimenez and Andre Nicastro were 12 laps adrift. Barrichello and his team-mates had a few problems in the first part of the race. Rubens took the first stint, during the course of which, he went off the track, which dropped him from second to eighth place, before he staged a strong climb through the field. Kanaan took the second stint, taking the lead, which Massa consolidated in the third stint.

"The win was harder to come by than it looked," said Barrichello after the race. "After seven hours, we had brake problems and the race was much more tiring than in past years."
