In front of the Ferrari home crowd at Monza, Rubens Barrichello managed to reserve his place on the second row of the grid for the Italian GP. The Brazilian was asked if had expected Williams to do as well as they did today. (Saturday)
"The Williams are definitely very strong," commented Rubens. "Plus, today they had the advantage that their tyres got up to working temperature quickly, whereas ours needed more time to heat up. But that could be an advantage for us in the race, when heat and tyre wear will be important factors. We have a good package and the car is very good in the turns, which means I can be confident of having a good race."
As to what the race has in store, the Brazilian is sure of one thing: "It will certainly be a fast one and the track layout means you can overtake, so starting from the second row is not much of a disadvantage."
He was also asked if the first corner was dangerous. "The first corner is always risky as caution tells you not to push too hard in case you hit someone ahead of you, but then you run the risk of being hit from behind! The important thing is to always be calm."
And what about his engine problem? "The engine which failed this morning has already been taken back to Fiorano to be checked. I lost a bit of time, both yesterday and today but I am still happy with today's performance."
Rubens had a final word about the tifosi. "I saw there were so many fans here today and I hope to see even more of them tomorrow."
