BARCELONA TEST - Day Two (of Four) 21st March 2001
Weather Overcast in the morning, sunny in the afternoon. Average air temperature 26C. Average track temperature 29C.
The BMW WilliamsF1 Team today continued with the second of a four-day test programme at Barcelona, in Spain. Juan Pablo Montoya joined the test alongside Marc Gene, for one day only. Juan is now going to Colombia, to do some promotional work prior to the Brazilian Grand Prix, and is therefore handing testing duties to Ralf Schumacher for tomorrow and Friday.
Juan Pablo Montoya
"We had a pretty good day, doing some tyre testing and working a bit on traction control. There is still a lot of work to be done but at this stage everything looks reasonably good. I am still a bit jet-lagged though, this morning I woke up at 5:00am!
"We focused today on suspension work and on a new set-up but we won't know the result of it until tomorrow, when we will collect some more data and compare them. This has been quite difficult work, d@anyway."
(WilliamsF1 Chief Operations Engineer)
"Juan Pablo joined the test for today only, driving the FW23 and conducting some engine performance work in the morning. In the afternoon he began an extensive tyre test programme for Michelin in view of the Spanish Grand Prix, so that he's got a good feeling of tyres for that race. Marc was driving the FW22B, developing engine software and also working on suspension."
Dr Mario Theissen
(BMW Motorsport Director)
"Like yesterday we are pleased with today's results. Juan Pablo did more than a race distance and also Marc achieved useful milage for our engineers to work on. On both cars we went on improving the driveability of the BMW V10 and were testing different engine management mapping for both the Brazillian and the Spanish Grands Prix."
