Jaguar Racing will test the new version of the R3 in Barcelona this week and Eddie Irvine says the results will be crucial. The aerodynamic changes are said to be very different and although Irvine is confident the team have done a good job, it's too early to say if the hoped for improvements will show at the British Grand Prix.

"This week's test is crucial," said Irvine. "We think we have done the new package a lot better and on Thursday we will find out if we have achieved those goals. The new car is radically different. Aerodynamically it is night and day difference. It is too early to say what is going to happen at Silverstone. We are confident that we have done a very good job considering the amount of time these guys have been working on it."

"If they had been working on it for two to three months like everyone had over the winter then it would be even better. If I think it is going to be rubbish what would be the point of going to Barcelona? I may as well go back home to Milan and get drunk. I believe it is going to be better and let's hope it is."

The next race at Silverstone in two weeks time will help Irvine decide his future: "The British Grand Prix is going to be one of the defining factors of my future," he commented. "It is going to let me know what to do. If the car comes out and it flies then I am going to want to stay in Formula 1. If it doesn't then it does bode well for the future."
