Promising first run for Mild Seven Renault F1 R202

Renault made their official return to the Formula One circuits today as the new Mild Seven Renault F1 R202 completed its first laps in the hands of Jenson Button during a successful day's testing in Barcelona, Spain.
Jenson Button took to the track first this morning, with Jarno Trulli continuing important development work in last year's B201. Having completed nearly 50 laps on the first day, Jenson was extremely positive about the new car:
"First of all, I want to thank all the mechanics for such a fantastic effort, working through the night to get the car ready. The shakedown went well, and we were then able to start changing a few things on the car, making improvements all the time. The car's overall characteristics don't seem that different from the end of last year, and I won't need to change my driving style to suit it. It was great to get back to work, and I'm looking forward to running the car again tomorrow." Mike Gascoyne, Technical Director of Renault F1 UK, was equally optimistic at the conclusion of the day's testing:
"An excellent first day! We had intended to complete the shakedown and some systems tests, but in the end Jenson was able to run 49 laps in the new car. All the systems checks went well, and we now have four days to work on the rest of the programme. Both drivers will have two days in the new car, with Jenson running again tomorrow before handing over to Jarno on Wednesday."
Mild Seven Renault F1 will continue testing at Barcelona tomorrow, with Jenson Button driving the R202. Test driver Fernando Alonso will make his first run in the new car at the end of the week.
