BRACKLEY, England (Reuters) - British American Racing have announced that they will launch a replica of their BAR003 chassis next week after Jacques Villeneuve crashed the only new car the team possess.

Canadian Villeneuve escaped unhurt when he hit a tyre barrier during testing at Jerez in Spain on Wednesday after suspension failure on the new car.

The Honda-powered team now have no new car to launch in London on Friday but have said the event will go ahead as planned and a replica will be unveiled instead.

"This is a disruption to our testing programme and a setback to next week's official launch," said managing director Craig Pollock.

"However, it's essential that the new car is 100 per cent right for the first race of the season in Melbourne.

"We know our friends in the media will understand our rationale. With or without the new car, next week's event promises to be a very special occasion. The drivers and the team are looking forward to it."

The first race of the season is on March 4.
