Today (Sunday) at approximately 11.30am local time at the Barcelona circuit, Luca Badoer had a major accident while testing for Ferrari. Badoer was removed from the car and was conscious, but complaining of neck pains. He was helicoptered to the Sant Cugat Hospital and the circuit was closed. There is no further news regarding his condition.

Only 100 yards before the corner Badoer was running flat out. Before impact he appeared to have lost a rear wheel. When he went into the gravel the missing wheel caused the car to dig in, and the car somersaulted and went over the tyre barrier.

The Ferrari was the 2000 model running the new 2001 aerodynamics package. The team are currently analysing the incident with a view to deciding whether to bring the testing session to a halt. It was planned that Michael Schumacher would take to the wheel on Tuesday.
