Though there were some sublime performances over the Australian Grand Prix weekend, no one did quite enough to start the year with a perfect score. And for some of the drivers settling into new teams, Bahrain needs to be much, much better

The pressure was on for Hamilton on his final Q3 run after an error on the first, but he didn't make the same mistake twice and denied his teammate pole position. Though he didn't make the most of the start, given that he had a piece of the rear floor missing just in front of the left-rear tyre he did a good job to keep second.

Verdict: A bad start was race-defining for Hamilton, who probably made staying ahead of Verstappen look easier than it was given the floor damage.
