Audi's Jorg Zander set to join Sauber as tech chief

Sauber is set for a fresh staffing boost, with highly-respected car designer Jorg Zander expected to join the team as its new technical chief.

The Swiss-based outfit has been able to ramp up its infrastructure in recent months following the investment deal with Longbow Finance that was completed back in July.

Having hired Xevi Pujolar and Ruth Buscombe in recent weeks, Sauber is understood to be on the verge of confirming that Zander is to join the outfit to help lead its 2017 preparations.

Zander has most recently been working for Audi in WEC, but is one of many staff who will be needing to find fresh employment after the German car manufacturer announced it was quitting the sportscar championship.

After first working in F1 with Toyota in 2003, Zander had spells at BAR, Williams, BMW-Sauber, and Honda/Brawn before leaving grand prix racing.

He came close to a return in 2011 with HRT before the deal fell through – and most recently joined Audi as its head of technology.
