Aston Martin has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Eddie Jordan, the former Formula 1 team owner, after his passing yesterday aged 76. The British team added his name and a shamrock emblem to its cars for the weekend of the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, a gesture that pays tribute to his Irish background.
Jordan was one of F1's most beloved characters. Born in Dublin, Ireland, he moved up the ladder of F1, eventually starting his own team in 1991 named Jordan Grand Prix. With a bright yellow livery matching his vibrant personality, he launched the career of the likes of Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. The shamrock featured on his early cars. In 2005, Jordan sold his team, with it eventually become Aston Martin after a number of iterations.
“Honoring a true legend of our sport and team. Eddie Jordan’s name will proudly feature on our car this weekend as we pay tribute to his incredible legacy in motorsport,” Aston Martin posted to Instagram.
Jordan passed away after a battle with cancer. A statement from the family said the following:
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan OBE, the ex-Formula 1 team owner, TV pundit and entrepreneur. He passed away peacefully with family by his side in Cape Town in the early hours of 20 March 2025.”
Good friend and colleague David Coulthard posted an emotional farewell on Instagram.
"Eddie Jordan was a force to be reckoned with beyond what anyone could expect in Formula 1. He was a gift to Formula 1 & he was a gift to Ireland. You never knew quite where his madness would take you next, but you always got there with a smile on your face.

"There will be endless people telling Eddie Jordan stories as long as there is still Formula 1 around. It has been an honour calling him and friend & all of our love to his family & his four children, Mikki, Zoe, Kyle & Zak."
Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin Executive Chairman, had the following to say on the former driver.
"Eddie Jordan was a true racer, a great leader, and one of the biggest characters in our sport. He was a friend who I have known for more than thirty years and I will miss him greatly. My thoughts, and those of everybody at Aston Martin, are with his family and friends."
Andy Cowell, CEO & Team Principal, followed with his own tribute.
"Eddie Jordan was one of the all-time motorsport greats. He was a one-off, a wonderful human being, and a charismatic leader who founded this team and took it to F1 in 1991. His vision laid the foundations for us and he leaves a lasting legacy for the entire motorsport community. Today we pay tribute to a legend of the sport and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues."
With a direct connection to Jordan's history, it's no surprise that Aston Martin is flying his flag this weekend. With him also being highly involved in Adrian Newey joining of the team, his influence will linger for years to come.
