The AA Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit has been given a clean bill of health by the FIA and has had it's Grade 1 license renewed.

FIA safety officer Charlie Whiting reissued the AA Kyalami license following a circuit inspection late last week. Apart from general maintenance Whiting did not ask for any other work to be carried out.

"Whiting asked that we do maintenance work on arrestor beds, kerbing and repaint lines where neccessary," said AA Racing managing director Piet Swanepoel. "Other than that we were given a clean bill of health.

"Circuit inspections can develop into expensive items and it was a relief when Whiting reissued our license without specifying any major work."

Following a recent FIM circuit inspection the Bankfin boma at the entrance to the Telkom Curves is currently being demolished, with an extended arrestor bed to be constructed on the site. FIM safety officer Claude Danis insisted that the boma be demolished, and that the run off area be dramatically extended before the opening round of the World Superbike Championship at the Midrand circuit on April 2.

"The work Danis specified is on schedule and will be completed prior to the deadline set by Danis," Swanepoel said. "The construction of the new arrestor bed will also not affect the Williams and BAR F1 test session from February 8 to 14."
