Although not a wheel has turned in anger since the last pre-Christmas test session in Jerez, work on the new R4 has been continuing around the clock in preparation for the 2003 season.

And, according to race team manager David Stubbs, the track time achieved before the break in testing has been vital in producing valuable data for Jaguar Racing, Cosworth and Pi Electronics to work on behind closed doors.

"The R3C didn't achieve as high a mileage as we would have liked, owing to various problems with the new engine," said Stubbs. "Nonetheless, we learned a great deal about it and were able to feed what we discovered into the development programme in time for the next test in early January."

New boys Antonio Pizzonia and Mark Webber shared the work during the three December tests and Stubbs is happy with the way both drivers have settled into the team.

"We ran for the duration of the three test sessions using an 02-spec R3 and a hybrid R3C -- the 02 car fitted with the 03-spec 90-degree V10 Cosworth engine," added Stubbs.

"It's way too early to draw any conclusions, but one thing is for sure: both drivers settled in very quickly and were very enthusiastic. They work well together and have been very well received by everyone at Jaguar Racing, Cosworth Racing and Pi Electronics. There is a real buzz about the team at the moment."
