Halm thrills home fans with Nurburgring trucks victory
Jul 5, 2016, 10:16 AM

The first lady of truck racing, Steffi Halm, took her second win of the 2016 FIA European Truck Racing Championship season at the Nurburgring last weekend.

A massive 123,000 trucking fans gathered for the 31st ADAC Truck Grand Prix to watch 31 year-old Halm, who partners with former DTM race winner Ellen Lohr in the Wow! Women on Wheels team, take a well-judged victory in race two after battling through from sixth on the grid.

“The first lap was really perfect," said Halm, who races a Reinert Racing-prepared MAN. "I come through from the third row and was really surprised, but then there was the big accident and the red flag, so I thought that advantage was all gone.

“Then we had the second start, I took the inside line and I stayed there to overtake Janiec and then after that Sasha [Lenz]. I then had to really put my foot down, because I knew that the others would come, but I held on and I am so happy.”

In winning the race last Saturday, Halm claimed her second ever FIA European Truck Racing Championship win after her maiden success last year at Hungaroring.

She remains the only woman racer to have ever taken victory in the FIA ETRC.

Lacko heads Hahn by single point in title chase

Adam Lacko leads the championship by a single point after two victories last weekend. The Czech racer, driving for the Buggyra International Racing System team, took a wet and dry win apiece on Sunday.

The fourth race saw controversy when Lacko made a move on Rene Reinert for the lead on lap 10 and the two made contact. Reinert speared through gravel losing four positions while Lacko, with his truck significantly battle-scarred from the incident, marched on to the chequered flag for his eighth win of the season.

Jochen Hahn’s win in the first race ensured he and Lacko are now separated by just one point in the Czech’s favour.

Reigning champion Norbert Kiss took two third places in his Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz. The Hungarian will race on home soil in the next round at Hungaroring, scheduled for the end of August.
