The Colombian, who confirmed a step up from European Formula 3 to GP3 with Arden last week, joins the Madrid-based Teo Martin Motorsport outfit.

Calderon previously raced in the series - then known as European F3 Open - full-time in 2012, finishing ninth overall before embarking on her three-year stint in the main FIA-backed F3 championship.

She effectively rejoins the same team she raced with previously, Teo Martin having taken over the Emilio de Villota Motorsport entry for 2016.

"I'm looking forward to working with Emilio again," Calderon told Motorsport.com. "I have always had a really good relationship with him, so the atmosphere in the team will be great.

"To combine Euroformula Open with GP3 is an amazing opportunity because there's a lot of track time, which is fairly limited in GP3."

"Unfinished business"

Elaborating on the reasons for committing to a dual programme, Calderon said wanting to make up for a disappointing final season in European F3 last year was a source of motivation - and new rules made a fourth FIA F3 season an impossibility.

"I still feel I need to close off the F3 circle," she added. "I have unfinished business there.

"I really want to be challenging for podiums and wins, and I’m sure the team will give me the tools I need to achieve that."

While the GP3 calendar has not yet been confirmed, Calderon may be forced to miss the Silverstone Euroformula Open races in July in order to contest GP3's Hungary round.
