Fifth success for Edoardo Mortara

21.08.2010 - With his fifth victory of this season, Edoardo Mortara (Signature) extended his lead in the points' standings of the Formula 3 Euro Series. Currently, the 23-year old Italian has 23 points more than Marco Wittmann (Signature), who is runner-up in the drivers' classification. At the 4.307 kilometres long track of Zandvoort, located in the North Sea dunes, Mortara scored a lights-to-flag victory. Finn Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix) and German Marco Wittmann occupied second and third place respectively.

Mortara laid the foundation for his success at the start when he immediately took the lead. Behind him, Valtteri Bottas, who has already won the 'Masters of Formula 3' at Zandvoort twice, pipped Marco Wittmann on the way to the first corner and thus claimed second place. In this order, they crossed the finish line after 19 laps. Behind Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix) and Roberto Merhi (Mucke Motorsport), Columbian Carlos Muñoz (Mucke Motorsport) was the best-placed rookie in sixth place.

Edoardo Mortara (Signature): "Yesterday's qualifying, in which I claimed pole position, was the most important part of this victory. Winning at this track is particularly nice, because after the bad luck I had at the Masters, I have now shown that I can win at Zandvoort, too."

Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix): "I am not entirely happy with my second place, because I wanted to win here and make up some points on Edoardo in the points' standings. After the pre-event test, I had a good feeling, but before qualifying, Signature has found something to make the car go faster. At a track like this, defending second place in the race against Marco wasn't too difficult, even though he was faster than me."

Marco Wittmann (Signature): "We have to analyse why I have lost one place at the start. After that, I was faster than Valtteri, but he didn't make a mistake and thus didn't give me any opportunities to overtake. Moreover, he always came out of the last corner very well, so that I was never close enough behind him on the following straight."
