F3: Erik Janis finished 10th, keeps second in the rookies
Erik Janis was 10th under the flag in the 10th race of the F3 Euro Series at Dutch Zandvoort. It is his fifth top ten finish in the field of 30 cars. The Mücke Motorsport driver also got a podium finish in the rookies, where he was third. He is second the overall rookie standings just two points behind team-mate Mikma Mäki.
Twenty six laps long race was ran in the dry and yesterday's forecast of rain proved to be wrong. The 20 years old Mercedes Benz junior driver started from 11th place. He kept in touch with group fighting for 4th-10th spots. He attacked Julian Bianchi in the penultimate lap but was not able to get ahead. The championship continues in two weeks time at Nurburgring.
Erik Janis: "I had better start than yesterday and I was glad that I managed to avoid the collision before the first corner. I was doing my best to keep in touch with the group ahead. Dani Clos caught me in the middle of the race but I held my position and he got a drive through penalty later. I was able to keep the gap to my team-mate Christian Vietoris and also pushed on the group ahead. I did not drive too aggressive to protect my tyres for the finish. My plan was to attack Jules Bianchi.I had a better exit from the last corner and we fought hard on the straight. However, I was on the outside of the Tarzan corner and had to back off." www.erik-janis.cz
Peter Mücke: "It is not easy to move forward in such race and on this track. Erik was like yesterday very quick and drove a disciplined race. As I said on Friday and yesterday, we had to improve qualifying next time. The gird position is extremely important in the F3."
