F3: Eleventh place for Janis at Zandvoort
Erik Janis finished 12th in the first race of the F3 Euro Series at Zandvoort after he started 20th but after disqualification of Nico Hulkenberg he move to 11th place. The Mucke Motorsport driver did not start well and low few places. He moved up after a first lap collision and pursued hard his rivals during the rest of the race. Unfortunately, he was not able to climb higher than place behind the points.
The Young Czech and team boss Peter Mucke afterwards agreed on one important thing - they have to focus much more on the qualifying from next race onwards. Team-mate Mika Maki caught up Erik in the rookie standings. Both have the same points but Maki is leading thanks to more wins.
Erik Janis: "I wanted to make a good start but unfortunately it was exactly the opposite. I lost two places. I got them back after a collision of others in the first lap. I was trying to overtake afterwards and it went well. Unfortunately I lost a lot of time behind team-mate Christian Veitoris. Once I got ahead I pulled off immediately. I caught group of four cars approximately three laps before the end but I did not have time to get ahead. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow. We have to qualify better next time."
Peter Mucke: "Erik showed great speed in the race and was equally skilled when it came to overtaking. It is pity that the finish was too close when he caught the group of four cars. Erik had better speed. Unfortunately, we paid price for yesterday's qualifying. We have to focus our work on the qualifying."
