Steinhof is first winner of Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup

Maciek Steinhof (Poland) decided the first race of the world debut of the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup with innovative bio natural gas power in his favour. After eleven laps at the Hockenheimring the last champion of the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup prevailed against junior driver Kris Heidorn (Germany) who had started from the pole position and Formula 1 legend Martin Brundle (Great Britain). At the thrilling inaugural race featuring the first ever use of a push-to-pass system in a touring car one-make cup the other Legend Cup entrants made their mark as well: the five-time Le Mans winner Frank Biela (Germany) came seventh, the two-time World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz (Spain) twelfth and former Formula 1 driver Jacques Laffite (France) 17th.

Formula 3 Euro Series

Volkswagen drivers extend overall lead

With a one-two victory in Saturday's race and a podium position on Sunday at Hockenheim, the Volkswagen drivers Edoardo Mortara (Italy) and Marco Wittmann (Germany) extended their one-two lead of the overall standings of the Formula 3 Euro Series. Wittmann celebrated his first ever Formula 3 race victory on Saturday. After starting from pole, the 20-year-old clinched a commanding start-finish victory in front of Mortara. The second race saw the Italian capture third place and thus his fourth consecutive podium finish, Wittmann saw the chequered flag in fourth place.

Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup (USA)

Ellis wins both rounds of Jetta TDI Cup season opener

Ryan Ellis managed a perfect start into the Jetta TDI Cup season. The experienced campaigner won both rounds of the American "touring car school" at the Virginia International Raceway and thus took over command in the battle for the championship. The runner-up with a narrow margin in both of the captivating races was the Mexican Juan Pablo Sierra Lendle. In Saturday's race AJ Nealey completed the podium; on Sunday Jake Thompson was third.

STCC

Ekblom and Olsson score points at the Jyllandsringen

Fredrik Ekblom and Patrik Olsson successfully started into the new season of the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC). The two drivers of a Volkswagen Scirocco CNG scored their first points at the opening weekend at the Jyllandsringen in Denmark. Ekblom finished the first of the two races in sixth place; Olsson took seventh in the second heat.

South African Rally Championship

Kuun/Hodgson win Sasol-Rally - Ralph Pitchford is third

Enzo Kuun and Guy Hodgson clinched victory at the Sasol Rally, the third round of the South African Rally Championship. The drivers of a Volkswagen Polo S2000 set the fastest time on six of the 16 special stages and in the end had a roughly 30-second advantage of the runners-up,.the Toyota pairing Gemmell/Archenoul. Jan Habig and Volkswagen "Dakar" factory co-driver Ralph Pitchford who also ran in a Polo S2000, completed the good outcome for Volkswagen with a third-place finish.
