Rosenqvist celebrates second victory of the day in Spielberg for Mücke

Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) notches another Formula 3 European Championship victory at the Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg, Austria

For Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport), Saturday at the 4.326 kilometres long Red Bull Ring was nearly perfect: the Swede already having won the 13th season race of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in the morning, he went on to win round 14 in the afternoon. Behind Red Bull protégé Daniil Kvyat (Carlin), Lucas Wolf (URD Rennsport) was classified third and thus scored his maiden podium finish in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Raffaele Marciello (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) finished 13th in the race that was stopped early following a collision between Luis Felipe Derani (Fortec Motorsports) and Alex Lynn (Prema Powerteam) and remains in the lead of the drivers’ standings.

At the start, Lucas Wolf initially was in first place, Felix Rosenqvist and Daniil Kvyat overtook the URD driver soon after that. Similar to the first race, Rosenqvist immediately pulled a gap with fast lap times and Kvyat also confirmed his performance by bringing an undisputed second place home. Lucas Wolf, however, had to deal with Nicholas Latifi (Carlin) in the early stages of the race before Sven Müller (ma-con) put Latifi under pressure, allowing Wolf to pull clear. Müller and Latifi collided on lap seven and Lucas Auer (Prema Powerteam was promoted to fourth as a result. The only Austrian in the field was able to reduce the gap of over six seconds to Wolf in the remainder of the race, but failed to fully close up to the German and finished the race in fourth place. With Josh Hill (Fortec Motorsports), Jordan King (Carlin), Harry Tincknell (Carlin) and Tom Blomqvist (Eurointernational), a British quartet locked out fifth to eighth place. Eddie Cheever (Prema Powerteam) and Michael Lewis (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) claimed the two final top ten spots.

On lap 20, Luis Felipe Derani and Alex Lynn collided in the battle for eleventh place. Lynn’s car hit the tyre stacks, spun and got stuck in the middle of the track. For safety reasons, the race was stopped. As, according to the regulations, the classification was made up one lap prior to the stopping of the race, Derani and Lynn were classified eleventh and twelfth respectively, just ahead of Raffaele Marciello.

Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) “The race was slightly more difficult than the first one, because I only started from third place on the grid. But I was able to overtake Daniil and Lucas in the opening lap already. After that, it was more or less like the race this morning. Towards the end, I didn’t take any risks anymore and I tried to safely drive victory home.”

Daniil Kvyat (Carlin) “I tried to give everything and I reckon that, compared to this morning, we have made a step forward. We are making small steps into the right direction and I am happy with that. Only my start wasn’t good, that is a thing I still have to work on.”

Lucas Wolf (URD Rennsport) “I am very happy with my maiden podium finish in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. I don’t have any team-mates and therefore, it isn’t always easy for us. But we try to make the best out of our possibilities and I hope that I can add further podium finishes to this one.”
