A strong performance in Race 2 of the F3 Euro Series at Zandvoort (NL) gives 2 more points to Robert Doornbos
Race 2 of the F3 Euro Series championship, at Zandvoort, took place under hot and sunny conditions. With overtaking extremely limited on this circuit, a good qualifying time was critical at this event. Having qualified his Dallara-Mughen Honda #16 in a disappointing 10th spot, on Saturday, Dutch Robert Doornbos made short work of climbing up the grid to finish in 7th place. At the green lights Robert had a very good start and earned 2 positions by overtaking Lapierre and Nico Rosberg at the first curve called Tarzanbocht. An accident occurred to Abadie and Auinger, some metres afterwards, forced the Safety Car to enter on circuit and remained until lap 4.
At the restart team Ghinzani driver Robert Doornbos climbed up to 7th position and pushed a lot in order to reduce his gap on Carbone, who was driving 6th, and to increase his advantage on follower Nico Rosberg. Robert drove with confident aggression for the all following 11 laps and, at the 9th lap, Carbone could see Doornbos' car in his mirrors. During the race Robert was able to drive a faultless race, pushing hard from the start to the chequered flag and finished his "home race" in a 7th final place, after a strong fighting for the 6th position. Finishing 7th Robert Doornbos earned 2 further points for the driver classification.
"My start was surely better today, than yesterday. At the green lights I had a good sprint and I was quite quick, so I could pass Lapierre and Rosberg. While I was in 7th position, when the Safety Car had entered the pit, I reduce a lot my gap with Carbone, who was racing in front of mine. He was slower than the first 5 drivers and I was close to him, but I couldn't overtake him; here is very difficult to find space. We must improve in qualifying. If we start in first rows I'm sure we can finish to podium. I also have to admit that in qualifying for race 2 I had also bad luck because I found red flag while I was setting my fast lap with new tyres"
