Robert Doornbos finishes 5th a strong and exciting race at Pau

On the fascinating street circuit of Pau the Race2 of the 63rd Edition of Pau Grand Prix took place today, 9th June 2003 on sunny and hot conditions.

On the very demanding and tight French circuit of Pau Robert Doornbos crossed the chequered flags in a strong and deserved 5th final position. At the green lights an accident occurred to Margaritis, Zuber and Tinguely that forced the stewards to expose the red flags and stop the race. 25 minutes later, at the restart, the Dutchman Team Ghinzani #16 driver made a clean start from his 14th position and got away cleanly and stretching away every lap.

Robert was able to move back up to the 8th place, at lap 10. >From since now on Robert Doornbos could manage his advantage with intelligence and great determination driving consistent and achieving a fantastic and really deserve 5th final position. Once again the Dutchman finished into the point zone.

"At the start I had a touch with Abadie who was behind me" - said a delighted Robert Doornbos - "In this touch I damaged my suspension and the wheel was a little bit twisted so that it was difficult for me to drive. In that moment I tough - well, my race is finished - but when I arrived on the grid to prepare for the restart the guys of my team saw that my car was damaged and they made a beautiful job repairing it as much as possible. The second start was much better, I had a nice battle with Winchelhock who was just in front of mine and I finished once again in the point zone which is very good for the Driver's championship".
