RENGER VAN DER ZANDE VERY FAST IN TEST PREMA POWER TEAM!
HOCKENHEIM, 30 OCTOBER 2006 - The DTM party at the Hockenheim circuit went on into the very early hours of Monday morning. But only a few hours later several top teams of the Formula 3 Euro Series were already testing candidate drivers for 2007. Renger van der Zande, a fast rookie in the German Formula 3 Cup this year and rookie driver with A1GP Team Netherlands was participating in the test session. He was invited to test by the Prema Power Team and was very successful! During the whole day he was by far the fastest driver.
Being used to Hankook tyres from the German cup, he used his first stint to become familiar with the Kumho's from the Euro Series. After that he started to work on the set-up of the car with his Italian engineer Giacomo Bussolati.
Renger was the fastest driver in the entire test session, which was attended by teams like Signature-Plus and Manor Motorsport and drivers like James Jakes, Johnny Cecotto, Yann Clairay and Kodai Tsukakoshi, the driver who made it difficult for Adrian Sutil in the Japanese series. Early in the morning he was the first driver to get below the 1.35 mark. After that he constantly improved his lap times and ended the day with the fastest lap time of 1:34.46. This was faster than the pole position and fastest lap times of the final Euro Series race with Vettel and Di Resta which was driven the day before.
The Prema Power Team, which did not have too much luck in the series this year, was very enthusiastic and trumpeted forth the praises of the cooperation with Renger. The indications he gave from driving the car matched with the computer data and led to some good changes to the set-up.
Davide DeGobbi, team manager: "This day is a windfall for our team. The experience we had with Renger, the constant fast laps on the track and the improvements we were able to make on the car, inspire us for the race in Macao."
Renger himself was also very enthusiastic. He was clearly up for this new experience in Formula 3. And that is what he showed from the first meters on. Renger will do some other test, at the invitation of several teams. Furthermore he will get some track action in Beijing, Malaysia and some other continents in the A1GP series. "A very nice but busy winter season for me," according to the Flying Dutchman.
RENGER VAN DER ZANDE: "It is terrific to go in full like we did today. I had to find the speed on the Kumho tyres, but after that it went faster and faster. The team-work with the crew was perfect. Together we discovered a lot of nice improvements on the car today. And the cooperation with this Italian team reminds me of my four years of karting with CRG from Lonato. A cheerful lifestyle in combination with a professional drive, I really like that a lot."
