Top team signs up Brazilian young gun, who is aiming to emulate his famous grandfather.
Pietro Fittipaldi has signed with top British single-seater squad Fortec Motorsport for his graduation to this year’s FIA Formula 3 European Championship.
The Miami-born Brazilian – grandson of the two-time Formula 1 World Champion and double Indy 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi – won last year’s British Formula Renault Protyre Championship by scoring 10 victories during the season.
The FIA Formula 3 series draws the finest racing talent from across the world, and offers Pietro the chance to score qualifying points for an F1 Superlicence – a precursor to joining the Formula One fraternity.
“I am really pleased to be joining the Fortec team,” said Fittipaldi, 18. “With Formula 3 on starting in April, this new relationship instils me with enormous enthusiasm and positivity for the coming year.
“I am looking forward to getting started and to build on the lessons and successes of last season.”
With 33 races in 10 locations, the pan-European series is televised worldwide and enjoyed by audience on air and online in nearly 200 countries.
The season starts Saturday 11th April at Silverstone.
