MORTARA ON POLE FOR THIRD RACE IN SUCCESSION

NURBURG (GER) 6 AUGUST 2010: Edoardo Mortara has qualified in pole position at Germany's Nurburgring for the fifth round of the 2010 Formula 3 Euroseries. Mortara leads the title chase with 54 points.

As in Valencia and at the Norisring one month ago, Mortara dominated today's session. At both of these previous events, the Italian took lights to flag victories. In practice this morning, he was second in both sessions. Tomorrow, he will line up ahead of Valtteri Bottas.

Grid position: 1 / Time: 1:22.658 / Dry, 20.5 ambient and 32-25.6 track temperature

EDOARDO MORTARA: "We did a really good job today and everybody's happy. Before coming here, we were not expecting to be so fast. We haven't been competitive at the Nurburgring in the past, so this is a welcome surprise.

"The first sector of the circuit is quite 'Mickey Mouse' I find. The first corner doesn't have a clear racing line, the second corner is blind, and turns 3 and 4 are really slow. The rest of the lap is fine, but I'm not a big fan of the first four corners. If we were racing at the old Nordschleife it would be a lot more fun!

"But it's a challenging track for the engineers and the drivers. It's difficult to get the aero balance right. Today, Signature did an awesome job in finding the car's sweet spot. As ever, massive thanks to them and to Volkswagen."
