Volkswagen has strengthened its 2008 Formula 3 Euro Series squad with the addition of two fast "stars of tomorrow": Franck Mailleux from France and Briton Martin Plowman compete in the leading "star of tomorrow" formula with Volkswagen engines. The two drivers completed their first tests at the end of 2007. The 22-year old Mailleux completes the Signature line up, and 20-year old Plowman starts for RC Motorsport. As a result, five of the eight Volkswagen powered Dallara chassis' are filled. The season opener in the hard-fought Pan-European championship is held on 12/13 April together with the DTM at Hockenheim.

The two young talents were welcomed to the team by Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen. "Whoever wants to be successful in Formula 3 must bring a strong package to the grid: Team, driver, chassis and engine must be first class and fit perfectly together. Martin Plowman and Franck Mailleux are a genuine boost for our squad in the 2008 Formula 3 Euro Series." Preparations and Volkswagen Motorsport are in full swing. "The evolution version of our two-litre engine has shown great promise on the dyno. We'll start our circuit test programme shortly." The 210 hp Formula 3 power plant made a promising debut in 2007."

Franck Mailleux also has previous experience in the Formula 3 Euro Series: He celebrated one win and claimed two further podium finishes in 2007 his debut season. "Formula 3 is the best proving ground for young talent on the way to Formula 1. The demands made of drivers, teams and manufacturers are enormous. Perfect teamwork during development and at the track is decisive for success," knows Mailleux, who is currently studying economics in England. "I'm really looking forward to the new season and working with Volkswagen and Signature." The Monegasque Stefano Coletti, Italian Eduardo Mortara and the Frenchman Jean Karl Vernay will compete alongside Franck Mailleux for Philippe Sinault's French team.

Martin Plowman from Tamworth (GB) will be a genuine debutant in the Formula 3 Euro Series. "Plowey" last raced in Formula Renault after years of successful karting. "Moving up to Formula 3 Euro Series is a very important step for me and I can hardly wait for the season to start," says the jockey like Englishman. "The standard in the Euro Series is very high; teams and driver are absolutely professionals. I'll have to learn very quickly as the engineers, circuits and car are new to me. The cooperation with Volkswagen is a golden opportunity for me."
