Erik Janis still the best rookie after Le Mans
The race today, the eighteenth out of twenty races of F3 Euro Series season this year, was essentially determined by weather. Light rain set in not a long time after the start, followed by the series of sharp skids, spinning cars and also accidents. Thus the race was interrupted by the jury. After re-starting there were only eight minutes left to the time limit, altogether racers drove only eleven laps out of twenty-seven planned. Erik Janis of the Mucke Motorsport Team was classified as thirteenth, whereas he retained in the lead of the rookies before the final at Hockenheim.
Erik Janis: "Well, what a race.I'd rather say a horror than motorsports. After the start I moved forward a few positions. When rain started to fall and the jury stopped the race, I was eleventh. The re-start came a bit late, so we only managed eleven laps out of twenty-seven planned. One thing made me feel sorry today. It's ok I had been penalized for driving fast under the yellow flags in free practise, due to this I had to add five other positions to my seventh place of qualifying in yesterday's start. However, in today's race a lot of racers shortened the track in the first ess, but nobody cared. That's rather odd, isn't it?"
Peter Mucke, team principal: "It was a chaotic race today, weather set rules. Due to the former situation, penalizing Erik for his offence in free practise above all, we couldn't really expect his attacking on points in absolute standings. However, it's just great that our pilot retained his first place in the rookies standings despite a difficult position."
