Laurens Vanthoor confident after preseason testing
Valencia. In two weeks time, the Euro Series F3 will start in the beautiful French venue of Paul Ricard. Meanwhile, reigning German F3 Champion Laurens Vanthoor made his debut in the F3 Euro Series during the test sessions in Barcelona and Valencia (Spain). Together with all the other competitors of the European F3 Championship, VW Signature driver Laurens Vanthoor took part in the official preseason testing sessions. "On the whole, I'm pleased with the result. Barcelona was not always easy, but Valencia showed that we are ready for the start of the 2010 championship." Laurens Vanthoor also finalized a deal with Belgian TV Channel Exqi Sport to broadcast the Euro Series F3 live in his home country.
"Being the only driver not knowing the track in Barcelona, was not so easy", explained the young Signature VW driver. "But we managed to find the right balance and pace and finally I finished fifth overall, second rookie, at only 0.001 seconds behind Carlos Munez, but I feel I still can go faster." With the first two days of testing completed, the Formula 3 Euro Series travelled from Barcelona to Valencia, the Spanish seaport being the venue of the next two days of testing. For the Euro Series F3 drivers there was indeed little time between the testing sessions in Barcelona and the second session of the preseason in Valencia. "We finished our testing duties Thursday evening in Barcelona and started again on Monday in Valencia", explains VW Signature driver Vanthoor. "But that's good, as you remain focussed and you do not lose your rhythm."
Laurens Vanthoor immediately showed good pace in Valencia and set fastest time on Monday. "I'm very happy with that. Barcelona has not always been as I wanted it to be, but here in Valencia it went well throughout both testing days." On Tuesday Vanthoor set fastest time early in the morning, "but later two drivers managed to go round the track quicker by using a second set of new tyres. I finished third overall by just a tenth of a second, which still is a good result." The aim of the testdays was of course to prepare for the racing season "and that's why we did a real race simulation as well. The result was very encouraging, so I feel confident before heading to Paul Ricard for the first races of the season."
New in the 2010 Euro Series F3 calendar is the season opener held on the beautiful track of Paul Ricard in the South of France, within the scope of the French Le Mans Series. On the 10th and 11th of April, the season will start with two exiting races on this high speed track. "My aim is to perform well right from the start as every point will be important for the outcome of the championship", tells Laurens Vanthoor.
Live on Exqi Sport
Belgian TV Channel Exqi Sport and Laurens Vanthoor came to an agreement to broadcast the Euro Series F3 live in Belgium. Stefan Van Loock, netmanager Exqi Sport, explains: " With the live broadcasting of the Formula 3 Euro Series, Exqi Sport again strengthens its autosport coverage. The TV channel continues to remain faithful to its own philosophy by supporting young Belgian talent and giving airplay to less known sports. Exqi Sport is delighted to work with a young talent like Laurens Vanthoor."
