Laurens Vanthoor off to Spain and out for revenge
ZOLDER. Apart from competing in the F3 Euro Series with his Signature VW team RACB National Team driver Laurens is also taking part in the major F3 races in Zandvoort and Macau this season. Furthermore Laurens Vanthoor looks ahead to the upcoming F3 meeting in Valencia.
Laurens, good news regarding your programme?
"Indeed, in addition to the F3 Euro Series I will once again be competing in the Masters in Zandvoort and the GP F3 of Macau this season. As in previous years both these races are made up out of the best F3 drivers in the world and I obviously want to be part and parcel of it once again and perform well. It goes without saying that I will be travelling to both of these with Signature VW, my team in the F3 Euro Series. The Masters F3 at Zandvoort takes place on 5th and 6th June, whilst the GP F3 of Macau is in fact held at the end of the season. During the weekend of 20th and 21st November we'll once again be taking on the fast streets in the former Portuguese colony."
Your season debut was difficult, how do you now look back on it?
"That's right; I had more bad luck in those four meetings than during the entire two previous seasons. During the opening meeting of the European F3 season in France the electronic engine management system broke and I had to retire, which meant that in the second race I had to start from the back of the grid but still managed to fight back up into fifth place. In Germany it was another bleak weekend with two accidents I couldn't do anything about. At that moment you start asking yourself how much bad luck one can experience and it did take a day or two before I was able to get over it and leave it all behind. Also because your team mates, who aren't faster, do actually win or grab a podium place. But resistance against such trying times is also part of making your way up to the top. However I have also remembered the good elements, namely my speed during the qualifying sessions and my comeback at Paul Ricard and we have of course analysed all the data at our disposal in order for us to come out even stronger during the next race in Valencia."
Earlier in the season Valencia looked pretty promising?
"Indeed, we held the official spring tests there and I was the fastest, which is why I'm really looking forward to the race there. Mark my words; I'm definitely out for revenge. The best way in which to wipe those bad weekends from my mind is to perform strongly n Spain in just over a week and a half's time. I'm not a learner when it comes to fast driving and I'm definitely out to prove it!"
