Rain tires or Slicks?
Back in Zandvoort, three weeks after racing in the BP Masters felt like home. Although all teams were again struggling to find the little extra speed to place their drivers in the pole position.Muecke Motorsport again doing a great job placing Jonathan in the top ten and fastest rookie in both practice and qualifying in practice a solid 4th. In qualifying Jonathan was 4th on coming into the pits to change his first set of tire. Going out with his second set turn 3 had a yellow with water on the track from another drivers crash into the safety barrels. This stopped Jonathan improving his qualifying by this time leaving him a very credible7th, top rookie.
Race 1 started with 25 cars hurtling down to turn one. Several arriving with locked up and smoking tires Jonathan starting from P7 was in the middle on the exit of turn one he was in 8th place but quickly gained the lost position back to 7th where he held a comfortable lead over 8th by about 1 second. The lead pack slowly pulled away at 1.3 seconds ahead. Jonathan's team mate Sebastion Buemi in third made a mistake causing him to spin and end his race . Jonathan now in P6 new he couldn't catch 5th place but in the final four laps had the fastest laps of any driver. At the checkered a great race in 6th and ready for a P3 start in the Sunday sprint race.
Race 2. The rains came and it rained and rained with winds gusting at 45mph so the team changed set up ready for wet as did most teams. As the cars went out the rain stopped and the track was wet and windy. The front 5 rows had rain tires the mid section a mixture and the rear had slicks. As the cars went on their wam up lap you could see the track drying however it was too late! At the start Jonathan had one of the best starts to date however going into the first corner his back was pushed into a spin where he stayed until all had passed. It was then decided to change tires to slicks so Jonathan came into the pits and changed tires going out about 1min 30 sec behind 1st. He soon got to grip with the wet/ dry track especially with the wet sections and during the next 15 laps overtook about 10 cars. As the lap times fell Jonathan was able to set the fastest lap 6 times, again proving his ability to handle any conditions well no matter what the conditions and set up were like. Jonathan was the fastest rookie.
Next race in beautiful Bacelona
