NO LUCK FOR SUMMERTON
Despite great times the end result did not do justice to Jonathan's First F3 Euro Series race at Oschersleben. From the get go Jonathan was fast in the first practice session he was 5th quickest in this his first time in the car at Oschersleben. He then went on to qualify p6 with less than 5/100 of a second off third place which was pretty impressive.
In the 1st race he got mounted by another car on the start from the rear as drivers jockeyed for the first corner. This affected the car's alignment and thus its handling. Once Jonathan came round for the first true lap in turn 1-2, a left-right his car snapped and put him off track.
He managed to get going from the back and worked his way up to P17 setting the top lap times for any Mercedes car and 2nd overall top speed.
Race 2 starting from P17 under the new rules he gained three places at the start and continued to work his way up reaching P11 by lap10. When chasing 10th the driver braked early causing Jonathan to spin and ending his race. Team Mucke were very pleased with his lap times considering he was in trafffic and felt that if he had not had the first race incident he would have been on the podium.
After the race Jonathan said," I know the results do not repflect well but as you know racing is much more than the results. I learnt a lot about passing especially when everyone says you cannot pass at Oschersleben. I feel that I could have had 2 podiums here but I suppose that is the luck part of racing".
Next race is at Brands Hatch in England July 1-2
