Erik Janis won F3 EuroSeries rookie title

Just month ago Erik Janis celebrated his 21st birthday, today is his name day and he celebrated all with a great sporting result - he won rookies championship of the F3 Euro Series. He confirmed his all season log improvements in the last, 20th race of the year at Hockenheim. The Mucke Motorsport driver finished seventh overall and second in the rookies. It was enough to keep the lead and he was there basically the whole season. The Mercedes Benz Junior driver won the rookies with two points advantage.

The decisive moment of today's race came in the first lap. Erik made a good start and put on an agressive move on his teammate Mika Maki and overtook him at the hairpin. He was very lucky later, when he managed to avoid a collision at the same place few laps later as uncontrollable James Jakes's was flown around.

The weekend was successful one not only for Erik Janis but also for his manager Antonin Charouz. It is double success for Mercedes Benz. Erik won rookies as a Mercedes Benz junior driver and Charouz Racing System won three titles with AMG Mercedes Benz DTM Class cars in the Czech championship. They finished with a double yesterday at Brno and Erik's brother Jarek contributed to the success.

Erik Janis: "I am overjoyed. Big thanks to my manager Antonin Charouz who secured a place in such a good team like Mucke Motorsport is. I have been proud to be Mercedes Benz Junior driver in his colours. I was not able to get bigger results overall but it was my first season in the F3 Euro Series, so I consider winning rookies as a success. I made a good start today and shortly afterwards attacked Mika Maki. I decided to make a go in the first lap in the slowest place of the track which is hairpin. I overtook my teammate and also rookie championship rival on the outside. The race was affected by several safety car periods which were caused by various accidents. I was very lucky with one of those accidents. I turned to the corner and suddenly I saw flying James Jakes's car. And I normally do not use mirrors too much at this place. I did not turn, braked and the car missed me by half a meter. My first euro F3 Series season just finished and I really want to continue there also next year."

Peter Mucke, Team Principal: "Erik made be very happy. He managed to win the rookies and this was his prime aim. I can only congratulate him and thank him for his performances. It was nice to work with him as he is very talented, quick and teachable driver."

Antonin Charouz, Erik's manager: "Erik managed to do what I had asked and expected in his first F3 Euro Series season. Of course, I am very pleased and happy to congratulate him. I also hope that this result will help him to continue in the championship also next year. I am happy that we did Mercedes Benz credit this weekend. Erik succeeded as their junior driver and our team Charouz Racing System won the Czech circuit championship with AMG Mercedes Benz C class DTM cars."
