Erik Janis to start from 6th row
Erik Janis is going to start his first ever F3 race from the sixth row. Mucke Motorsport driver was also fourth best rookie out of ten. Hockenheim saw the first qualifying only on Saturday as Friday's schedule was washed out. Qualifying was shortened from 30 to 25 minutes and Janis was in the top ten for majority of the session. He lost out at the last seconds.
The qualifying took place on a damp track but wet tyres were the right choice for the whole session.
Erik Janis: "It was a thrilling qualifying. The main reason was that we were first on the track today. It was difficult to choose the right tyres but in the end we selected wet tyres and it turned out to be the right choice. I was in the top ten in the first half and then I went to the pits. We discussed a possibility to use slicks. We stayed on wets just changed the setup a bit. I was ninth till the very last lap of the qualifying and was half a scond up on my best but I lost everything when I outbraked myself at one corner. Couple of drivers jumped ahead and I am 11th. I think that it is not bad for my debut. I am looking forward to the race that starts at noon."
Peter Mucke, Team principal: "Erik could have been in the top seven but small mistake did not allow getting there. However, it is not important, Erik is a true rookie and he definitely did not disappoint."
Antonin Charouz, Janis's manager: "Erik drove very well. Only drivers with much more single-seaters experience are ahead. It is a good base for today's race."
