MORTARA READY TO ATTACK FROM P3 IN HOCKENHEIM
HOCKENHEIM (GER) 23 APRIL 2010: Formula 3 Euroseries championship leader Edoardo Mortara qualified in third place today ahead of tomorrow's feature race in Hockenheim, Germany.
The Italian set the pace in practice, but was forced to back-off in the third sector of his most promising qualifying lap because of traffic. He therefore lines up behind pole man Marco Wittmann on the clean side of the grid.
Grid position: 3 / Time: 1:33.167 / Pace: +0.146 / Sunny and dry, 21 ambient and 32 track temperature
EDOARDO MORTARA: "Qualifying was a bit so-so. We topped the times in free practice and therefore I'm a bit disappointed not to score pole position. It didn't go as it should: I had a problem with the first set of tyres, and I was held up a little by traffic on my second run. Still, P3 isn't bad, I'm at the sharp end and with a good start it should be possible to score big points. My focus at all times is the championship and so I mustn't make any silly mistakes.
"It's actually been a good day for the team because we have three cars in the top four. Congratulations to my team mate Marco Whittmann who is on pole. Laurens Vanthoor is right behind me. We're all up there, and I consider this a help because you behave a certain way with team mates - it's less risky."
OLIVIER BACCHIS (RACE ENGINEER - SIGNATURE TEAM): "Today was another strong performance from Edo and he would have been faster had he not encountered another car on the last lap. We have the pace, so we should be happy and ambitious for Saturday. Tomorrow we will run with less downforce, and Edo knows exactly what's needed from him. It should be a good race."
