Short second race for Carlo van Dam

HOCKENHEIM - Also the second round of the 2009 Formula 3 Euroseries at Hockenheim in Germany had little to offer to Dutch racing driver Carlo van Dam. Having started from 18th position on the grid today, Carlo's Dallara-Volkswagen was hit on lap seven by Christopher Zanella's car. A damaged front wing forced the VW-driver of the all new Kolles & Heinz Union-team to retire.

"I had quite a good start and got past three of four cars, but on the straights everybody managed to overtake me again rather easily", says Carlo, who primarily suffered from a lack of top speed all weekend. "Today my car did not handle too well in the corners either, as I had massive understeer. I gave Zanella enough space to get by, but he decided to run into my car. That hit sent me flying into the air and when I landed the front wing broke. The wing came loose two corners later and got stuck under my car. As there was too much damage, I had to park the car, so that ended my race."

Despite the disappointing results at Hockenheim, for Carlo - the F3-champion of Germany and Japan in the last two years - it is not a weekend to quickly forget. "On the contrary. We must seriously learn from all this and take action. Since the first test-sessions of this season, we have encountered some fundamental problems. Those have to be solved before we can have a realistic chance to perform properly."

The next F3 Euroseries races are at the German Lausitzring on May 30 and 31. First, however, Carlo will compete for Volkswagen in the Nurburgring 24 hour-race at the famous old Nordschleife.
