Was Zandvoort the turning point of the season for Guillaume Moreau ? As expected, the Signature-Plus driver was back in the pace, and even if he only got two points in the Netherlands, the lift in performance is clear. There could be opportunities to shine in the coming events.
Free practice brought smiles on the faces of Signature staff members, as Guillaume set third fastest time. Unfortunately, his hopes for a good place on the grid for race 1 disappeared short before the end of the qualifying session when team-mate Romain Grosjean went off. Yellow flags, a slower track, no way to improve anymore, Guillaume had to be content with a frustrating 9th time.
As a response, Guillaume pushed hard in Saturday's race to cross the line 7th, scored two points and got a place on the outside of the front row of the grid for Sunday's race. "Finally, the result is good news, because overtaking here is quite difficult" said the Frenchman after the first race.
But thanks to a morning heavy downpour, the start of the race would be a wet one.the track was slippery so according to his front row position, Guillaume had no other choice but to choose wet tyres. "Rain had stopped, but starting on slicks would have been too dangerous, risks to be pushed out were too high. We just prayed for the rain to come again, contrary to the drivers at the back of the grid, with nothing to lose, who were in a position to bet on slicks!" In early stages, Guillaume fought with Esteban Guerrieri for the lead. A contact in the first lap resulted in the Argentinian climbing on the Signature entered-Dallara, but the pair's battle could resume until it became perfectly clear that drivers running with a dry track package were definitely faster. Guillaume's hopes for a podium finish vanished in the air. He even lost the last point-paying place on the line.
After a frustrating but promising event, Guillaume drove south to Le Mans. Two days of testing later, Guillaume set the second time of the closing session under the flag, between Summerton and Vettel. Spain is the next stage: the antepenultimate event of the F3 Euro Series will take place in Barcelona on September 23rd and 24th.
