European F3 switches Moscow round for Algarve

The FIA Formula 3 European Championship has ditched its upcoming race at Moscow Raceway to join the Blancpain Sprint Series support bill at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve.

The series had been scheduled to race in Russia for the second time at the DTM event at the end of August but instead will race at the Portimao-based track on September 4-6.

A mid-season test will also be held at the venue in Portugal a few days before the race weekend on September 1-2.

The reason for the switch is based on costs and logistical reasons, as teams complained that the benefits were outweighed by the expense of trucking its cars so far east across Europe. The organisers have now accepted their request.

This will be the first European F3 event at the track on the Algarve coast that was opened at the end of 2008.
