Volkswagen driver Mika Maki finishes tenth at Barcelona

Wolfsburg (19 September 2009). A preliminary decision came after just a few metres: A starting accident in Saturday's race of the Formula 3 Euro Series at Barcelona deprived the Volkswagen drivers of their chances to be successful. The Frenchman Jean Karl Vernay (Team Signature) and the Briton Nick Tandy (Kolles & Heinz Union) were forced to park their cars while Mika Maki (Finland) and Tiago Geronimi (Brazil) lost a lot of places. The two junior drivers from the French Signature squad started a strong recovery afterwards that saw them advance to positions ten and eleven. Johan Jokinen (Denmark) in his Dallara F308 Volkswagen from the Kolles & Heinz Union team took 13th place; Jake Rosenzweig (USA, Carlin Motorsport) had to retire due to a defective drive shaft. Red Bull Junior Brendon Hartley, who won the previous round at Brands Hatch, did not start from the Barcelona grid due to another commitment.
