F3: Another point and back in the lead in rookies
Erik Janis is in the lead of the rookies again. The Czech driver got back first place at Barcelona after he finished second race second in the rookies and seventh overall. He added another point to two from yesterday. Only first six normally score points in the second race but Brendon Hartley, who finished sixth, was racing without the right to score championship points.
Erik started from the second position but the beginning of the race was not as he wished. He had slower getaway and was in the mix with other cars before the first corner. He locked wheels under braking and his car was hardly under control.
The Mercedes bent junior driver spun off. Fortunately he was able to continue. He was ninth after the first lap. He tried to drive as quick as possible till the end but his effort was hampered due to flat spotted tyres.
Erik Janis: "My start was not definitely a great one. Unfortunately, it happened when I was in the first row. Suddenly I was between cars from the second grid. I have nowhere to go at the first corner. I was quite quick but locked wheels and went off. Fortunately, I quickly managed to get back, I was ninth. My tyres were damaged, so I could not have done more. It might have been better but at least I am back in the lead of the rookies." www.erik-janis.cz
Peter Mücke, Team Principal: "It sometime happens what Erik did. The important thing is that he did not crash and was able to continue. He did all what he could. It is impossible to do miracles on damaged tyres. The great thing is that he is back in the lead in the rookie standings. It is the main aim for this season to win the rookies."
