F3: Erik Janis 7th and won rookies
Erik Janis scored a great result in the first race of the F3 Euro Series at Barcelona. He finished 7th and got two points. He also won rookies and moved from third to second in the overall rookie standings. He is just one point behind the leader. The Mücke Motorsport driver started 12th today. Tomorrow he will hae advantage of the first row, as the first eight drivers from race one are reversed on the grid for race 2.
Twenty years old Mercedes Benz junior driver did not have an ideal start but first corners showed that it was actually helpful. There were accidents just ahead at both first and second corner of the shorter version of the Catalan track. The Czech moved up to eighth. He tried to prepare ground for an attack but he decided to back off after retirement of his team-mate Mika Mäki and keep seventh till the finish line."
Erik Janis: "I did not have a good start but it turned out to be an advantage. There were collisions at first and also second corner. I just managed to keep out of trouble, especially at the second corner. Cars were all over ahead and I just missed them. Suddenly, I was eighth from 12th on the grid which was good. My focus was to catch the cars ahead while not destroying the tyres. When Mika Mäike retired I thought it would be better not to risk and keep seventh position which means two points and front row place for race 2. I am also happy to be best rookie today and moved to the second in their standings. I am just point behind the leader. Hopefully I will have another good day tomorrow." www.erik-janis.cz
Peter Mücke, Team Principal: "Erik drove a great race today and I am delighted with his performance. He has been showing that he is quick and consistent in the races. Tomorrow he will have a good chance to get a super result thanks to his grid position. We will hope that it will happen."
