Montreal, Canada, September 4, 2004 -- Canadian race car driver Bruno Spengler made an impressive recovery from 23rd to 13th in Round 15 of the Euro Formula 3 Series held earlier today in Zandvoort, Holland.

The Mercedes-Benz works driver and ambassador of the Casino of Montreal encountered a serious problem and set the 23rd fastest time during the sole qualifying session held this morning.

"The car had no grip at all," said the 21-year old driver. "On used tires, it was not bad but when we mounted the new tires, the car had no grip whatsoever. It's doesn't make sense. I was not able to brake late and was not capable of turning the car into the corners."

Driving his Dallara-Mercedes Benz, Spengler took a great start and managed to gain several positions during the action-packed race.

"I passed two cars at the green and passed three other competitors during the first lap," he said. "It is difficult to pass on this track and there were many crashes. The Safety Car took the track three or four times." Spengler eventually crossed the line in 13th place, only eight seconds behind the winner.

The second race of the meeting will be held tomorrow morning and Bruno Spengler will take the start in 16th place.
