Canadian Spengler races in Zandvoort this weekend
Montreal, Canada, September 17th, 2003 -- The eighth round of the 2003 Formula 3 Euro Series will be staged this weekend in Zandvoort on the sea side coast of the Netherlands. The Dutch circuit already hosted the prestigious non-championship F3 Master last month, so for many drivers it is a second visit this season to this demanding road course. Canadian race car driver Bruno Spengler, a member of the Mercedes-Benz Junior Team and one of the three drivers of the French ASM stable intends to step up on the podium one more time as he brilliantly did two weeks ago in Austria.
With eight different winners since the start of the season, the Euro Formula 3 Series proves to be extremely competitive and each time they take the track, the drivers must push themselves to the absolute limits because every tenth of the second is crucial. "I competed in the F3 Master so I know the Zandvoort circuit quite well," said the 19-year old Spengler who is a rookie in this category of international motor sport. "The circuit is quite wide and pretty tricky. It is made of a succession of slow and fast curves. The problem with our F3 cars is to be equally quick in all sectors. However, the layout of the Zandvoort track is quite similar to that of the A1 Ring where I finished on the podium two weeks ago. For me, things are promising."
After a week of intense physical training in the Austrian Alps with the trainers of the Mercedes-Benz team, Spengler is ready for action. "It was raining and cold in Austria last week and I caught a cold but now I'm fine," said the Quebec driver who clinched in 2000 the French Elite karting championship in the Formula A and Super A categories. "My objective is to score at least one victory before the conclusion of the season. I'll do my very best to win my maiden Formula 3 race in the very next future. In regards to this weekend's race in Zandvoort, I have to concentrate on two or three small points but I am ready and confident to perform well."
As usual in the Euro Formula 3 Series there will be two races held this weekend. Action will begin Friday with qualifying for Race 2. Then, on Saturday morning will be qualifying for Race 1 followed by Race 1. Finally, Race 2 will be staged Sunday morning. Bruno Spengler is the driver of the #34 silver Dallara powered by a two-litre, four-cylinder, 210-horsepower Mercedes-Benz engine.
