Montreal, Canada, July 3, 2004 -- Canadian race car driver Bruno Spengler -- the ambassador of the Casino of Montreal and member of the Mercedes-Benz Junior Team -- finished a solid 5th today in the Euro Formula 3 Series' race held in Magny-Cours during the F1 Grand Prix of France.

Spengler, the driver of the #3 Mercedes-Powered Dallara, started the 18-lap feature in 6th place and again took an excellent start.

"I was running in 5th place before the Adelaide hairpin corner," said Spengler. "However, Alexandros Margaritis arrived way too fast with all four wheels locked. I braked extremely hard to avoid him and he moved ahead of me. A few laps later, I attacked him at the first chicane. We ran side by side but he went straight through the corner and he remained ahead of me." Margaritis was not penalized for having cut the chicane. Meanwhile, Alexandre Premat was given a stop-and-go penalty for having jumped the start, moving Spengler up one place.

Spengler crossed the line in 5th place, 6/10ths of a second behind Margaritis and 5/10ths ahead of Nico Rosberg.

"I finished 5th and set a fast lap during the race, only 3/10ths off the best time," said Spengler. "I scored four championship points. It is not bad at all. Tomorrow, I will start the race in 5th place and there will be a lot of action out there!"

The 12th round will be held tomorrow in Magny-Cours, just before the start of the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
