Montreal, Canada, May 1, 2004 -- Canadian Formula 3 driver Bruno Spengler drove another stunning race today in Round 3 of the F3 Euro Series held in Estoril, Portugal. The 20-year old Mercedes-Benz driver sliced through the field, from 27th to 10th place and set the 5th fastest lap in the race.

Spengler started way back on the grid because he and 21 other competitors elected to take the wet track for the sole qualifying session with their cars fitted with wet tires. When the racing line started to dry, they all switched to slicks. After the session, these drivers were all disqualified because the race director did not posted the "Wet Practice" board at the pit exit, meaning that all cars needed to be shod on dry tires despite the risks involved. After some heated discussions, the race director and the drivers reached a compromise and set a starting grid that unfortunately did not reflect the true speed of the competitors.

Therefore, Spengler started the race in 27th place and drove brilliantly to finish in 10th position, just half a second behind his team mate at Mucke Motorsport, Robert Kubica.

"I made a great start and by the end of the first lap I was already running in 16th place," said Spengler. "Then, the next competitors gave me a bit of a hard time but I managed to pass six of them. I passed Robert Kubica on the last lap but I did a small driving mistake in the last corner and he powered ahead of me on the final straight. It was a thrilling race! I had a lot of fun and I gave everything I had. The car was running very well and I am very happy to have set the 5th fastest lap in the race."
