F1 2015: AI difficulty
I recently played the latest Formula 1 racing game on my PS4. Here are my thoughts on latest F1 simulation from Codemasters...
Welcome to Part 4 of our six-part review of the newest Formula 1 game.
The AI of F1 2015 will surprise you. And by surprise you, I mean it will not be your friend. During a race at Sepang, Romain Grosjean decided to take an opportunistic move to my outside after I botched the final corner, putting two tires on the grass and making it work.
The battles for position were just that - They were battles. Don't expect the AI to simply give up a position once you complete the pass. Yes, they will jump out of the way to avoid a collision but will immediately attack you in an attempt to regain the spot.
I also noticed that lapped traffic showed extra courtesy to the race leaders. Their aforementioned desire not to make contact does cause some issues though. I spun and quickly pulled back onto the racing line and within moments, the field had gathered in a 15-car conga line behind me. None attempted to pass until there was room to do so, but at racing speed, there's little to complain about.
You will likely be caught off by the first car that suddenly switches lanes and dive-bombs you into a corner, taking away the apex. Oh, and if you make contact, you can expect a gesture from your rival as he shows his displeasure with your driving.
In conclusion, I was pleasantly surprised by just how difficult the single-player competition was - The AI felt much more natural than I was expecting. Nothing seemed artificial about the moves those cars were making.
