Nurburgring 24h: Four Mercedes out front at half-way point
After 12 of 24 hours on the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife, Mercedes reigns supreme with four cars at the top of the standings.
For the last couple of hours the #88 Haribo Mercedes has led the race with Uwe Alzen, Lance David Arnold, Maximilian Götz and Jan Seyffarth at the helm. They have managed 55 laps so far, and apart from scheduled stops have led the way.
Fellow Mercedes teams Black Falcon, with cars #4 and #9, as well as HTP with car #29 make it a Mercedes 1-2-3-4 at the half-way-point.
However, the #912 Manthey Porsche, the #100 Schubert BMW and the #1 WRT Audi are still in contention and on the lead lap in the middle of the night.
Some have had to call it a day already; the #18 Schubert BMW retired from the lead seven hours into the race with heavy smoke coming from under the hood of the car. Then the #8 Haribo Mercedes stopped soon after with damage to the front end after an off-track excursion.
This race is far from over, as more rain is expected to arrive in the morning, and it could even be worse than at the beginning of the race when rain and hail hit the Nordschleife so hard that all on-track activities had to be suspended for several hours.
