Historic Group S sportscars will feature on the Bathurst 12 Hour support card for the first time in 2018.
Group S joins the Radical Australia Cup and Combined Sedans on the support bill for the February event, marking the debut for the historic sportscar category.
With a grid set to include 1950s and ‘60s classics such as Austin Healeys and MGs right through to later models cars such as the Datsun 240Z and the Porsche 911, Group S is being framed as a nod to the history of sports production racing in Australia.
"Being able to show case what Group S is to an international audience is very exciting, and we are keen to put on a great show, both on and off the track,” said Group S Racing Association President Alex Webster.
“The categories and classes determined by year and engine capacity provide exciting racing action throughout the entire field, meaning it is not only the outright race that is hotly contested.
“We had an incredible response to being on the Bathurst 12 Hour programme and will have 60 cars at Bathurst, filling the maximum 55-car grid density."
The Group S field will take part in practice. qualifying, and three races across the Friday and Saturday of the 12 Hour weekend.
