Mugello – Christian Engelhart topped the time sheets in qualifying for the Hankook 12H Italy-Mugello. Driving the GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 (#963, Rolf Ineichen/Marc Ineichen/Adrian Amstutz/Christian Engelhart), the German driver set a fastest lap of 1:47.909 around the 5.245 km Mugello Circuit.

Second fastest was Rory Butcher in the MJC – Furlonger Ferrari 458GT (#32, Witt Gamski/Phil Dryburgh/Rory Butcher/Keith Robinson), 0.351 seconds slower than Engelhart. The MP Sports Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 (#777, Martin Prokop/Robert Kubica/Quirin Müller) and Precote Herberth Motorsport Porsche 991 GT3 R (#911, Daniel Allemann/Ralf Bohn/Robert Renauer/Alfred Renauer) will line up on the second row of the grid.

Engelhart snatched pole position from Butcher in the dying seconds of the qualifying session. The German driver was one of the few drivers still out on the track after a late Code 60 and came through to claim pole as the chequered flag was already shown. This year’s pole time was 0.115 seconds faster than last year’s pole. Butcher himself had taken provisional pole away from Kubica with 13 minutes remaining, but both drivers were denied another chance when the Code 60 flags were shown.

The A6-Am class

The fastest car in the A6-Am class was the HTP Motorsport GmbH Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 (#41, Wim de Pundert/Brice Bosi/Indy Dontje/Jazeman Jaafar). Dontje was the fastest driver in the class, his lap time of 1:50.012 almost three seconds faster than that of the Spirit Race Audi R8 LMS ultra (#31, Edward Lewis Brauner/Suzanne Weidt/Alexander Hrachowina/Martin Konrad).

The SPX class

Pole position in the SPX class went to Serbian racing driver Milos Pavlovic in the SPORTEC Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan Supertrofeo (#58, Nicolas Stürzinger/Milos Pavlovic/Roberto Pampanini/Christoph Lenz), who beat the GDL team Asia car (#77, Gianluca de Lorenzi/Giacomo Barri). In the all-Porsche 991 class it was Robert Lukas from Poland in the GT3 Poland Porsche 991 Cup (#59, Robert Lukas/Stanislaw Jedlinski/Marcin Jedlinksi/Bartosz Opiola) ahead of the Tsunami RT 991 (#86, Oleksander Gaidai/Come Ledogar/Kriton Lentoudis).

The SP2 class

Czech driver Tomas Enge put the RTR Projects 2 KTM X-BOW GT (#24, Tomas Enge/Reinhard Kofler) on pole in SP2, followed by last year’s A3T class pole sitters LMS Engineering and its Audi TTRS2 (#206, Daniela Schmid/Constantin Kletzer/Stefan Wieninger/Peter Terting). The gap between the two cars was 0.580 seconds.

Other classes

Other class pole sitters for the Hankook 12H ITALY-MUGELLO are the Nova Race Ginetta Ginetta G55 GT4 in the SP3 class (#284, Roberto Gentili/Luca Magnoni/Gianluca Carboni/Luca Rangoni), the PCR Sport Seat Leon Cup Racer in the TCR class (#140, Harriet Arruabarrena/Antonio Aristi/Jordi Masdeu/Iñigo Vigiola), and the Capricorn Racing Seat Leon Supercopa (#108, Claudio Truffer/Patrik Meier/Gerhard Haas) in the A3 class.
