Leipzig qualifying report fights its way to seventh position

Leipzig (January 29, 2011) After a tough start to the weekend with a ninth and eleventh position in the free practices, has fought its way back in qualifying. With Max Wissel behind the steering wheel, the #16 BOOF Pizza kart was able to complete a lap in 52.909 seconds, which put the debuting team in seventh position on the grid.

After the rather disappointing speed in free practice, the team worked hard in the 30 minute break before qualifying to optimize the tire pressure. In the opening laps of qualifying these changes didn't have immediate effect on the performance of the kart, resulting in a position just outside the top ten. When the tires got up to temperature, the lap times started to drop and with five minutes remaining, Wissel was able to fight his way to seventh position.

"The kart is definitely better than before and seventh is for sure a satisfying result, especially when you know that we were 10kg heavier than most competitors," Wissel said right after being congratulated by his team. "But of course we know that qualifying isn't very important for a 24 hours race. We'll just have to wait and see what happens in the race. Our lap times are fairly consistent but traffic will be an important factor."

The 24 hour of Leipzig will start later today at 2pm CET and will finish 24 hours later on Sunday January 30.
