California 8 Hours: Haase takes pole for Audi, Land
Christopher Haase put the Audi Sport Team Land R8 LMS on pole for tomorrow’s California 8 Hours at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The German driver’s 1min23.961sec lap of the 2.238-mile course in Monterey, CA, was enough to beat Markus Winkelhock’s best in the similar car of Audi Sport Team Magnus by 0.195sec.
The pace of the R8s left Porsche North America’s Wright Motorsports-run 911 GT3 R over half a second behind, although by 0.003sec the Jorg Bergmeister/Pat Long/Romain Dumas-piloted machine was able to nudge Robin Frijns’ WRT Audi down to fourth.
Fifth went to Alvaro Parente in the K-PAX McLaren 650S, ahead of Peter Kox in the first of the Acura NSXs.
Top Pro-Am honors went to Jeroen Bleekemolen in the Black Swan Racing 911 in seventh overall, with Wolf Henler landing eighth in GMG’s 911.
Only one of the TRG Aston Martin Vantages was able able to participate, the 07 car, and so it will start at the front of the GT4 pack, behind the two Invitational Class Mazda 3 V8s.
The race will run from 9.15am-5.30pm local (Pacific) time tomorrow.
